Her career began in San Francisco, where from 2000–2006 she worked with students in grades 3–5 in both teaching and support roles. Since then, she has taught 6th grade at Ocean Shore School for approximately eight years, worked as a 7th grade Language Arts teacher at IBL, and later served as both a 5th grade support teacher and a 4th/5th grade classroom teacher at Ocean Shore again. She has also worked extensively as a substitute teacher across multiple grade levels throughout the district.

She sets high expectations while providing the guidance, encouragement, organization strategies, and individualized support students need to succeed.
Jessica holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from the University of San Francisco. She has also completed coursework through UCLA toward her Single Subject English Language Arts Credential, with only one exam remaining. In addition, she brings a global perspective from a year studying abroad in Madrid, Spain, along with conversational Spanish skills that help her connect with and support diverse learners.

Background for Aaron Paul
High School Senior and Math Tutor
Aaron Paul is a math tutor specializing in supporting middle and high school students in mathematics. He has experience helping students in all areas of middle school math, as well as the following high school courses: Math 1, Math 2, Math 3, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2.
Aaron is currently a senior in high school and plans to major in mathematics in college. He has consistently pursued an accelerated math pathway, skipping a math course upon entering high school and completing an additional summer course after his freshman year to advance further. He completed Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus during his sophomore year and AP Calculus, the highest-level math course offered, during his junior year. For his senior year, he is enrolled in Statistics and will also complete a Logic course through Stanford over the summer.
What makes Aaron especially unique is not only his strong understanding of mathematics, but also his natural ability to explain concepts clearly and patiently. While many students may excel academically, Aaron has spent much of his life helping peers and younger students understand material step by step. Since early elementary school, he has regularly supported teachers by working with individual students and small groups to help build confidence and understanding. During his freshman year, he also volunteered through an online program supporting students in Oakland.
Aaron provides calm, individualized instruction designed to strengthen conceptual understanding, improve problem-solving skills, and build confidence in math. He understands that students often benefit from hearing concepts explained in different ways and works carefully to break down challenging material into manageable steps. His sessions focus not only on successfully completing assignments, but also on helping students develop the independent thinking and foundational skills needed for long-term success in mathematics.
Working closely alongside an experienced educator and tutor, Aaron follows structured curriculum and individualized learning plans tailored to each student’s needs. His approachable teaching style helps students feel comfortable asking questions, learning from mistakes, and gaining confidence in areas where they may have previously struggled.

Stacy, Parent of 5th Grade Student
My 5th grader was struggling with math and writing and his confidence was suffering. His sessions with Jessica began with working on his weekly math homework, just getting through a few problems. After a few weeks he was able to finish his assignment during his sessions. She reinforced the basics, reading and re-reading word problems and organizing his work to find the answer. Eventually, they began working on reports and presentations, how to organize research, etc. After each session he would say, “I’m so proud of myself…”, “I’m so glad I have Jessica, she is like my own private teacher…”. His confidence improved considerably by the end of 5th grade. I’m so glad we started with Jessica when we did. My 5th grader is looking forward to working with Jessica as he transitions to middle school. She lit a fire in him, and he is motivated to do better in school.
Christina Lee, Parent of 6th Grade Student
Jessica taught 6th grade at Ocean Shore School, 7th grade at IBL, and later co-taught my child’s 5th grade class, making her a perfect fit for our sometimes unruly, slightly ADHD child in his transition from a K–5 project-based learning experience to a standard middle school structure involving daily homework and more writing assignments with shorter turnarounds.
Our child's primary struggles are with writing and executive functioning. Jessica has helped him immensely in building a foundation for approaching writing and even taught him customized strategies to use when he is struggling with writing assignments. His executive functioning skills still need work, but Jessica has patiently and consistently guided him on how to stay organized.
I can't recommend Jessica enough if you have a child who needs additional support. She has a kindness and patience that we as parents can't always muster. Jessica's support was critical to our child's success during his first year at IBL as a 6th grader.
7th Grade ELA Student
I think this year is the one where I have changed the most as a writer. Your lessons didn’t just teach me, but they challenged me-made me look back at what I had written or read and really, truly think about it. Each of the assignments/projects in your class this year were great learning experiences. I admire your will and patience, as a teacher and a person, to keep on coming to teach our class every day. You are a wonderful teacher whom I am grateful to have.”
Jonathan Harris, Principal, San Mateo Outdoor Education
Both of my children had the great fortune to be taught by Jessica. She is highly skilled at finding strategies to support all students with their academic needs, while also building a personal connection that boosts the confidence needed to apply those strategies. My family is grateful for the inspiration and academic support Jessica gave our children.
